Takigawa swayed a moment before he regained his balance. He must have been out of it; the boy had come out of nowhere.

He rubbed the back of his neck and said, “Hey, it’s no problem; I should have been paying more attention. What’s with the map? You lost?”

Gene chuckled and rubbed the back of his head. “Nah. Just using it to keep track of the shrines I have visited. I’m on my way to the bus stop actually. My next appointment is in Kyoto.”

“Appointment?” Takigawa looked at him for the first time and did a double take. “Naru?”
